    Task 4.2 OSPF

    Hello experts,

can someone please explain what just happened in this task. I did not see where they were coming from or going to with the Summary Net Link States (Area 34) for that matter!!Huh? And the SG does not explain much.

    Thanks for your input.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Solution Guide gave detail explainations. They used to do it in the earlier labs but not in the latter. It would have saved us a lot more processing power of our brains. I hope they will do it in the Version 5 workbooks.

I missed this one too and skipped it.  The SG guide doesn't explain why this works, but now I get it -- I think.

The "Net Link State (Area 34)" output of "show ip ospf database" is showing the designated routers in Area 34 (this is the type-2 LSA).  By making the ospf network type point-to-point, we are eliminating the use of a designated router on the segment.  Since we no longer have a designated router in Area 34, we no longer have the type 2 LSA in the database.

I wish every candidate must remember OSPFv2 and OSPFv3 LSA types and conditions when and where they come into play.
