The virtual-template will always be down/down.  It's not an interface, it's just a template.

If PPPoE is working, you should get a Virtual-Access (#) interface created.

PPPoE is one of those things that appears to have spotty success across different IOS versions.  Just keeps life exciting.

I think the good docs have magically left the 12.4 set.  Check out 12.2.  Just be aware that many of the vpdn-group command sets have changed to bba-group.

I probably should write something decent up about it.  I'll stick it on my list of things to do!

    Re: interface virtual-template down/down

    Hey Dev,

    Can we see your config?

Are you running CHAP or PAP? run debug ppp authentication and see if you are even authenticating! Is the PPP looking for the other router's hostname as the login or are you using "ppp pap sent-username"? make sure you have checked your config and make sure the right physical interfaces are configured for the miltilink correctly! Also, are you using the "ppp multilink links minimum x" command?

Again, would really help if we saw your config mate.

    Cheers,

    mpls-te
